Yet, several types of fashion majors exist, and it is important to understand the differences between these majors and how to select the most appropriate option. Students considering either a fashion design or fashion merchandising major at a Vancouver fashion school should have a strong sense of style and a solid work ethic. Yet in choosing between these majors they should also consider their abilities to work precisely and accurately, to create computer-based and hand-drawn sketches, to understand the historical and cultural aspects of fashion, and to succeed in math.

Vancouver Fashion Design

Students pursuing a Vancouver fashion design degree sketch clothing designs, use computers to generate designs, develop patterns, choose the appropriate fabrics, and sew a variety of garments to create a clothing portfolio. They must work very precisely and accurately in order to create quality pieces It is a detail-oriented process, but it is also highly rewarding to see sketches morph into tangible outfits. Students who can devote significant amounts of time to each project and work patiently and carefully are best suited toward this major.

Fashion merchandising majors learn to integrate their knowledge of fashion with a business-oriented approach to the industry. They learn not only about different textiles but also about the cultures that determine which styles become popular among various groups of people. Along the way, these students delve into the history of fashion and stay up to date on current trends. The ideal fashion merchandising major at a Vancouver fashion school will also have a strong math background in order to learn basic accounting skills. Students interested in this major should have a strong interest in fashion, think creatively, enjoy identifying new trends, and be comfortable focusing on long-term projects.

Students beginning to work toward either a Vancouver fashion design degree or fashion merchandising degree will find helpful professors, engaging hands-on projects, and supportive classmates. They will find that much of the course work centers on hands-on projects and that while some of their instruction comes from text books, they also learn from guest lecturers and visits to fashion magazines, fashion shows, or clothing companies. By critically evaluating their strengths and weaknesses, students can choose the fashion major in which they will most likely excel.

If you are interested in fashion designing then you can learn at Vancouver fashion school. You can easily get a job in fashion industry if you have a Vancouver fashion design degree.

What to Expect With Merchandiser Jobs

When you see ads in the newspaper or online for merchandiser jobs, if you are not familiar with this field, you might need some information on the type of work these jobs entail. It is quite possible to ask someone you see stocking the shelves in a store for assistance and to be told that this person doesn’t work in the store. So what is this person doing sticking the shelves? This is one of the jobs of a merchandiser. A manufacturer will hire merchandisers to make sure their products are attractively displayed in a store. While merchandising does entail different types of jobs, the main goal is to make sure that certain products are well displayed so as to attract the attention of customers to increase sales.

Some of the various jobs you may have as a merchandiser include giving product demos, providing training for the retail sales staff of a store or resetting the display areas. Merchandisers are those people who give demonstrations of products at various times in a store and then direct you to the area of the store where you can purchase the products. Quite often they offer a short time period after the demonstration when you can purchase the product at a reduced price.

]]>

When new products come on the market and are for sale in a particular store, a merchandiser may be hired by the store or the manufacturer to provide training for the staff of the store so that the staff can answer customers’ questions or demonstrate how the product works. This is usually the case when the manufacturer releases a completely new product and wants to make sure the product is in the eyes of the consumers as soon as possible. The company will send representatives to various stores to give the staff instructions on how they can advertise and market the product and to make them aware of all its features and benefits.

Resetting refers to cases where the products have all sold off the store shelves. This is a bigger project that the other two types of jobs. All the old displays are dismantled and replaced by new and improved displays that may have a mixture of older and new products. This is usually done store by store, so that a merchandiser finishes the job in one store and then moves on to another one.

The schedule of a merchandiser can be very varied and flexible. Unless the manufacturer has a specific time of day when you need to do the job, youc an pretty well set your own schedule. Most of the time, the manufacturers give you a date by which the job must be completed and it is up to you to decide when you are going to do the work. This is true when you are an independent contractor, but if you work full time for a company, then you will have a 9-5 job. For the most part, you have to be in the store during its opening hours and most prefer you to be finished by 3 or 4 P.M. each day. There is rarely any weekend or evening work associated with this field.

Merchandising – Does Anybody Understand The Florida Panthers Ownership?

September 25, 2011 by admin

It seems like the Panthers owner is the same person as the Florida Marlins owner like a carbon copy. The Panthers get rid of their good players. Who of course make multi million dollars a year. Just like the Marlins. They get young players because they do not have to pay them very much or old veterans who are 2nd or 3rd stringers on other teams. The other veterans they have are on their last legs that couldn’t make it on any other team.

Again, The Marlins do the same crap and expect us to pay higher ticket prices next year when they move into their new stadium in Hialeah, Florida. I heard they are going to change their name to the Miami Marlins. I went to live Panthers Television show At Duffys restaurant in Plantation, Florida. They had 3 Panther players. All were extremely young looking. People asked them various questions. The Panthers whole theme for the show was rebuilding, rebuilding, and rebuilding. Well, it seems to me they have been doing that routine for the last ten years. There is a point you stop reloading the deck. Just deal in a couple top cards. You need to get at least two great players to put butts in the seats. The put butts in the seats reminds me of a Jerry Seinfeld episode. Where Elaine says something like ” i can put butts in the chairs”. That was so very funny.

The Panthers announcer Bill Murphy keep pushing that they are rebuilding. Next year will be a lot better. I see they just fired their head coach a few days ago. Now what? Draft five young college players with no pro hockey experience. Bring them right on up to play NHL. Who is going to pay to see these guys. The Florida Panthers seriously who? I guess only hockey die hards and the hockey fans of their opponents. Probably be more fans for the New York Hickey team at a Panther home game than the Panther fans. Where do they expect to get their revenue from? I am sure television is not paying them much.

I know they can not be making any money on merchandising. Who is going to buy a Florida Panthers jersey? The jerseys look cool i give them that. The only reason I see someone buying a jersey. It won’t be for a player. Will any one buy a hockey puck or a hockey stick? Maybe they could train young hockey players in South Florida for extra dough. If you get in the playoffs you get more money. If you get to the second round you get even more money. More paychecks for their cute ice dancers and their mascot. More money for the city of Sunrise, Florida through hotels and restaurants. Why don’t they get two really good players. I know lots of multi millions. Then you may get in the playoffs. Sell more merchandise and make more money in ticket sales.

Things to Consider When Choosing a Wholesale Merchandise Liquidator

September 22, 2011 by admin

Merchandise liquidation companies in Chicago offer assistance to businesses and individuals who need help in disposing of their overstock and distressed merchandise. Stores and shops that keep inactive goods in their warehouse or office space spend money unnecessarily on distressed goods that they cannot put up for sale. Aside from the loss they experience by keeping items they cannot sell, they also have additional costs when they store this non-performing merchandise.

Storage, maintenance, security and insurance for these goods need to be taken care of and these things will cost you more money. You will also experience the added hassle of having your warehouse space used for items that you can no longer sell. This is why it is important for businesses that have surplus items in their inventory to ask for assistance from wholesale merchandise liquidators.

Expertise and Experience in Finding Secondary Markets

If you have goods that you are offering for re-selling, it is important to have professionals find secondary markets for you. This can be quite challenging because successful retail stores and other growing businesses face the risk of compromising the quality of their products and the integrity of their brand when they sell distressed items and overstock goods to merchandise liquidation companies. Some do not allow you to have any control in the choice of secondary markets for your surplus inventory and this can have a negative impact on your brand image and your marketing campaign. Choose a liquidation company who can accommodate your concerns when it comes to deciding on the location and suitability of secondary markets for your goods.

]]>

If your primary target market learns that the goods they have bought from your store are being sold at a fraction of what they are worth in secondary markets, then you can lose new customers and valued patrons. This can result in a great loss for your store or business in the future. Merchandise liquidators can also become your primary competition for your regular business merchandise. This is the reason why your merchandise liquidation company must be chosen with care.

Convenience and Efficiency

Working with merchandise liquidation companies is easier than putting up your surplus inventory for sale in an online auction. Planning and arranging an auction is time-consuming and does not guarantee the successful re-selling of all the items in your inventory. Merchandise liquidators on the other hand can simply evaluate the goods in your inventory and pay you cash up-front when they are satisfied with the assessment they have made on your merchandise.

They can also visit your warehouse and take stock of everything you are offering for re-selling and make an accurate accounting of all your products. You can effectively eliminate the need for a middle man to evaluate your distressed products and make detailed descriptions of the pieces in your inventory.

Hire a reliable merchandise liquidation company to handle the logistics of re-selling your discontinued products or inactive merchandise. Find prominent liquidation companies in Chicago that have years of experience under their belts and who can conveniently accommodate your preferences.

Visual Merchandising As A Silent Salesman

September 22, 2011 by admin

Visual merchandising, also known as the ‘silent salesman’, suggests selling by display and presentation. Visual merchandising focal points are located strategically to circulate the customer in the store, and communicate the features and benefits of the merchandise. This is done by converting a passerby to a browser with an effective window display, a browser to a spender through the process of ‘conversion’, a spender to a big spender by increasing the ‘ticket size’ assisted by the process of cross-merchandising.

Retailers also use the space in the non-trading common areas in addition to the merchandise presentation space for brand promotions paid for by companies owning the brands. Dealer signboards, windows and in-store space of outlets like chemists and grocers are used as point of purchase promotional areas.

Visual merchandising enhances the shopping experience by providing the right ambience, besides creating an image of the store in the minds of the customers through a combination of colours, display presentations, graphics, lighting, forms and fixtures. If done in an exciting and dynamic fashion, the shopping experience would be pleasurable for the consumer and make him come repeatedly.

Visual merchandising communicates to customers the right message about the merchandise by projecting the latest trends, colors and fashion in apparel retailing. Visual displays are the perfect communication vehicle, provides an opportunity for retailers to sell a variety of merchandise.

One Fashion Merchandising School is Better: Why and How to Find It

September 22, 2011 by admin

The road to the right college always begins and ends with you. What is your ideal college environment? How close to or far from home do you want to be? Which is a bigger draw for you–the academic potential or the social environment? These are questions that need to be answered well before you pack your bags for school.

There are several points to consider when you sift through fashion design and merchandising schools. Perhaps the most important is concerned with the prestige of your dream institution. You might want to go to that glitzy school in New York, Paris, or Milan–and that’s ok. But you need to keep in mind that a brand-name school does not guarantee your success.

Stop fretting over the fact that you don’t have straight A’s. According to U.S. News & World Reports, colleges are typically more interested in the contributions you can make to their programs rather than accepting the cookie cutter application. Of course, academic performance is important. But so is being well-rounded.

]]>

When applying to fashion design school, use your application to paint a complete picture of your talents and abilities. Also, avoid the tendency to eliminate potential schools too early in the application process. They may eventually be your landing point if your first choices don’t work out as planned.

Program specificity typically dictates coursework and requirements. That means the opportunity for you to personalize your studies, better preparing you for career longevity. For example, a fashion design school may offer more generalized classes in the field–textiles, colors, sewing, and fashion history. On the other hand, fashion merchandising schools may be grounded in retail operations–so mathematics and economics may come into play.

Some things to do to keep yourself ahead of the curve:
Chances are that your admissions essay can be used at whichever school you apply to. Save this and other app materials, such as transcripts to cut down on the time it takes to apply to each school.
Some fashion design schools offer RSS feed updates of new services and programs. Subscribe to be kept in the loop automatically.
Your chances of acceptance increase greatly when you keep your mind, and options, open.

The right fashion design school or fashion merchandising school is out there. With some research and persistence, you can find it.
